Gengar is the final evolution of Gastly and the evolved from of Haunter. It is a Ghost/Poison Pokémon and is known as the Shadow Pokémon. It is a playable Pokémon in Pokkén Tournament. Gengar was introduced to Pokkén Tournament upon it's initial release in Japan on arcade.

In Pokkén Tournament[]

In high stance, it levitates to avoid low attacks and while in low stance, it sinks into the ground to duck under some attacks. Its mega form can fire devastating lasers and can deal some of the most damage in the game. Its Burst Attack, Shadow Drop, starts on the ground (can be avoided by jumping), and then follows into a sequence in which Gengar swallows the opponent. It is tied with Chandelure for having the second lowest HP count in the game (510).

Special Characteristics[]

Gengar's Burst Mode changes its entire moveset, something that no other transformation does, not even another Mega Evolution. Learning the differences between the movesets of Gengar and Mega Gengar is crucial to playing as the character correctly.

Trivia[]

  • Gengar shares its ability to enter and exit its own shadow with another Battle Pokémon - Darkrai.
  • Gengar's Burst Mode, Mega Gengar, features the most radical differences from its base form compared to all other Burst Modes in the game.
  • Curiously, Gengar appears to be aware that it is in a video game, as it will grin and attempt to lick the Victory Icon and Results Screen, respectively. This is considered "Breaking the 4th wall".
  • Gengar's Burst Attack deals the most damage in the game by far, and is one of only three Burst Attacks to be a grab (the other two being Mewtwo and Empoleon).
